New Delhi: The ruling BJP and the Opposition parties traded barbs over the Gujarat government’s decision to lift ban on liquor in the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City). While the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) termed the decision as “unfortunate”, saying it will “ruin” the state’s youth, the BJP, justified the move saying it will provide a conducive environment for the business to boom. The Gujarat government on Friday announced the lifting of liquor ban in the GIFT City, exempting it from the statewide prohibition. Notably, Gujarat, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, has maintained a ban on manufacture, storage, sale, and consumption of alcohol since its formation. The decision to exempt GIFT City from liquor ban is aimed at fostering a global business environment.
