The Xcel Energy Foundation has awarded $5,000 grants to Meals on Wheels of Amarillo and Isaiah’s Soup Kitchen in Hobbs through the Xcel Energy Foundation’s 2024 Employee Choice Grant awards program.
The grant recipients received the most votes from Xcel Energy employees in Texas and New Mexico. Each year, employees nominate nonprofits that are important to them. A panel of employees select finalists that align with the company’s values and the Foundation’s focus areas. Employees statewide then vote for a single finalist.
The Employee Choice Grants program expanded to Texas and New Mexico last year and now includes six states Xcel Energy serves. The employee-driven effort has provided close to $400,000 in grants since launching in Colorado in 2015. Funds from the program come from shareholder dollars.
“Meals on Wheels is so grateful and thrilled to have been chosen as the Texas Employee Choice Grantee Winner,” said Susie Akers, executive director of Meals on Wheels of Amarillo. “It means the world to us knowing our volunteers value our mission and the important work we do in the Amarillo community.”
